Explore the magnificent Mayan Ruins of Xunantunich “Maiden of the Rock”

This is a full day tour.
- Located in the western part of Belize in the Cayo District
- Ride across the Mopan River to Xunantunich
on a hand-cranked ferry
- Climb the nearly 130 foot El Castillo, the tallest structure at Xunantunich and the second tallest structure in Belize (after the temple at Caracol)
and see a great view of Cayo and neighboring Guatemala
- The core of Xunantunich occupies about 1 square mile, consisting of a series of 6 plazas surrounded by more than 25 temples and palaces.
- Visit the remodeled, informative museum that includes the history of
the excavation of the site, two stelae, and more
- On the drive back to Dangriga briefly drive
through Belmopan, the nation’s capital city (time permitting)

to beautiful waterfalls
- Includes strenuous hiking trail for more advanced hikers that meanders along the
magnificent 140-foot Antelope Falls at the top of which is a refreshing natural
stone-lined “pool” and amazing views of Hopkins Village (a coastal
Garifuna village) and the sea
- Visit the Garifuna museum in Dangriga Town
- Driving tour of culturally rich Dangriga Town, stopping by local drum-making

Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
Hike, explore, enjoy river tubing at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
Difficulty rating: Moderate.
- Located in the Stann Creek District and a 20-minute drive from the coastal town of Dangriga
- Declared national reserve in 1984 which today includes over 100,000 acres
- The only jaguar reserve in the world and is home to a variety of wildlife including the jaguar, ocelots, jaguarundis, scarlet macaw parrots, and the Baird’s tapir (Belize’s national animal)
- First known human inhabitants were the ancient Maya Indians
- Includes a number of walking trails ranging from easy to moderate to strenuous
- Includes many streams and tributaries of the South Stann Creek and Swasey Rivers
- Lush jungle (classified as tropical moist forest) in which mahogany, cieba, cohune palm trees can be found as well as orchids, tree ferns, climbing vines, and a large variety of birds (over 290 species have been recorded)

What should I wear and bring along on Belize mainland adventure tours?
Wear loose-fitting, comfortable, breathable clothes over your swimsuit with hiking boots or a sturdy pair of tennis. Take along a change of clothes, camera, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat, money for souvenir purchases and identification. We provide pack lunches and beverages.
