What You Want to Know About Island Vacationing
Island Vacationing
Recommended items to bring for your island vacation at Coco Plum
We recommend you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, reef shoes, insect repellant, a citronella candle for your veranda, comfortable, cool, casual clothes, mask, snorkel, fins, and a lightweight, waterproof jacket (for the boat rides to and from Coco Plum and the mainland). You may also wish to bring along books, cameras, favorite snacks, and a flashlight for exploring caves during mainland tours and also for walking on the island at night (we do not have lighted pathways). If you plan on hiking remember to bring hiking boots or a sturdy pair of tennis shoes. High heeled shoes have very limited use on the island, so you might prefer to use the luggage space for flats or flat-heeled sandals! If you have an iPod, bring it along too. You can listen to it in the bar on our outdoor speakers.
Island Climate: the temperature in Belize, the water temperature, and the rainy season
From November thru April, daytime highs range from 82-86 degrees Fahrenheit to the mid 60s during the night. From May to October, temperature highs range from 88-94 degrees to the upper 70s during the night.
The waters of Belize are temperate and clear, making it ideal for divers and snorkelers. Temperatures range from 77-78 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter months to 83-84 degrees during the summer.

Shopping and Dangriga Restaurants
For shopping, we can arrange for a boat to take you to the mainland where you will find local arts made by the Garifuna (native Belizeans) available in Dangriga. Baskets, drums, artwork, Mayan jewelry, wooden figurines and locally produced jams, jellies and hot sauces are some of the tourist favorites. You can also find supplies to replenish toiletries, snacks, film and many other items.
If you are interested in a meal on the mainland, Dangriga offers over ten local restaurants. Getting around in Dangriga is easy as they do have a local bus, rental vehicles and taxis. For a Belizean cultural experience in Dangriga, visit the Garifuna museum, the art studio, or watch the drum making.
If you want to go to the mainland for shopping or sightseeing in town and a tour is already scheduled to go to the mainland, you can get a ride to the mainland for free. But if there is no tour group leaving the island, we require that you inform us about boat service you need a day in advance for scheduling. Check with the manager. There will be a charge of $40 U.S. per couple one way. Check our packages for which boat services are included.
To transport our guests from Dangriga to Coco Plum Island Resort, we have a 38 foot boat with twin 200 horsepower Yamaha engines. We use this boat when we have at least 10 people. We use one of our smaller boats when we have fewer people. For diving, fishing, and snorkeling tours, we have several smaller skiffs that are ideal for transporting guests safely to their fun experience.
The Frigate Bird and Pelican frequently visit the island. Walking on the island you may find the Coco Plum, the island's namesake - which really does exist, or catch a glimpse of an iguana. While watching the sea, you may spot our resident manatee.
The caye has a fascinating history. It was used as a base by English pirates who plundered Spanish galleons that sailed just beyond the barrier reef. Evidence of their presence is seen in the sea glass and many sea-smoothed glass bottles that are found on the cay, some dating back to the 1500's.
The island has its own power supply (110v). So the outlets are just like ours in the states! You will have hot water and electricity 24 hours a day.
